Leisure and Convience

Just picture yourself in the most comfortable place you could ever be. What would you see maybe it’s a good old hammock on some sandy beach with just you, a nice cool beverage, and nature? Maybe that’s not your cup of tea maybe you are the more adventurous type and your comfortable place is hang gliding off of some random cliff. Whatever it may be all “comfortable places” will have one thing in common for sure and that one thing is invention of course. From the time that man was working toward some kind of goal there was also leisure, now leisure did not really require much I mean for the classic sleep addict all they would really need is some kind of bed they were comfortable and they would be set for life. Unfortunately not all people dance to the same tune so inventions were made. It’s not a tough concept to grasp really someone could be sitting in a chair and they think "you know this chair would be much better if it reclined or rocked or even massaged me while I was sitting in it." Just like that those things were born. Convenience is a big factor for invention too. What’s the old saying there just aren’t enough hours in the day? How about do you want it done fast or do you want it done right? With things like the modern cell phone, microwave ovens, and 200 mph bullet trains people will come to expect these kinds of things in their daily routine and who knows maybe one we will be passing the Jetsons with our cars that will fold up into a brief case and cool house cleaning robots named Rosey.

Power

Have you studied any history in school? Chances are you have heard of some kind of ancient empire maybe it was the Egyptians, the Greeks, the Romans, the Aztecs or maybe the lesser known empire of the good people in China. These great empires may have been scattered across the face of the earth and some were centuries apart when they were at their height of power. They all did have one thing in common, they all rose to power through some sort of warfare. Whether it was the average run of the mill conquer of a more peaceful people or if it was full scale war with armies, advanced weapons, and lots of death, you know all the good stuff. Invention for power has been the staple of empires since the dawn of humanity. From the first bow and arrow, to the hot forged sword, all the way to the laser guided missile of today under normal circumstances whoever had the better weapons was going win the war. If a good Greek soldier could wield his spear as the instrument of death that it was intended to be he would last much longer on the battle field. Just as a master musician in the orchestra the instrument and the person are as one they function in perfect harmony to make beautiful music or in our case sinister death on the battlefield. Even more recent military men rely on the invention and faithfulness of a good rifle. Who knows maybe one day the soldier will be completely removed from the battlefield and be replaced entirely by newer better machines. With more and more computer integration with weapons the day is probably closer than we think.

Necessity

Who among us has ever used a toilet or driven a car or talked on a telephone whether it landline, cell phone, or coconut phone from Gilligan’s Island? Chances are you have done one or all these things and all these things are someone’s invention. Invention has been around for tens of thousands of years since the first cave men who sat around and made fire to ease the grip of the cold nights in the elements. Whether it was the ancient cave that brought us fire, or today’s inventors who are working on devices that we all dreamed of as children, the flying car is not far off. Why do we invent, why do we ever make anything more than what nature gave us? There are many reasons why we invent all of these inventions were out of necessity. For those great minds of the cavemen they had the need to stay warm and to cook their meat to prevent disease, so what happened they invented fire to solve both problems. For the people living squalor and filth they needed some way to get rid of human waste without it lingering in the streets and causing the population to get terrible diseases. Hmmmm what sort of device is there that moves human waste to somewhere away from the population I don’t know, oh yeah maybe a toilet. What about that great need to the world well about 150 years ago your options were walk, ride a horse, or take a boat. Luckily for us there was some fine folks who just needed to go further, faster, longer, so what did they do well they invented of course the internal combustion car first saw life somewhere in the late 1800’s planes would follow about thirty years later. Invention will always be a part of life especially this type of invention because as long as there is a need for something better than what we have there will be invention.

funny invention video

This video is almost like pee wee's play house but not quite, but it's still good.
